Michael Cook
Enjoying & Photographing Scotland’s Wildlife
First things first: my name isn’t Scot — it’s Michael. And while I’m not Scottish by birth, I’ve lived here since 2002 and proudly call it home. But I’ll admit there’s a wee bit of “wild” in my personality and humour.
So why WildScot photography?
I have a deep love for Scottish wildlife — and a fondness for a playful pun. WildScot reflects both my passion for this country’s incredible creatures and my desire to share that wonder with you.
My photography experience
I’ve been photographing wildlife for over 20 years both in the UK but also extensively abroad. I have photographed most of Scotland’s iconic species as well as over 1,100 species of birds worldwide. My photos have been published in numerous media outlets including BBC and magazines including Bird Watching. I have been successful in numerous photographic competitions most recently reaching the finals of the British Wildife Photography Awards in 2025.
Whether a beginner or more advanced, I am available for wildlife workshops so please get in touch.
My wildlife experience
I have been watching and tracking wildlife since as early as I can remember. I have an in depth knowledge of Scottish wildlife and strong fieldcraft skills. I love sharing Scottish wildlife with others in person and via this website.
In the last 10 years I have become a dedicated birdwatcher targeting seeing over 200 species in Scotland each year. In 2024 I took a big year out and travelled through 17 countries in Latin America seeing 1545 species of birds which placed me 6th in the Americas and 36th worldwide by the end of the adventure.
I am available as a birding or wildlife guide throughout Scotland so please get in touch if you are interested in booking me.
On this site I share my journey enjoying and photographing Scottish wildlife. I would love you to share this journey with me.
